Study of hydrolysis of novel bi-functional reactive dyes using HPLC

Abstract
The hydrolysis of three hetero bi-functional reactive dyes (RD10, RD11, RD12) and Everzol Brilliant Red 3BS (as control bi-functional dye) was investigated with the aid of HPLC. Solutions of these dyes and Everzol Brilliant Red 3BS were prepared and heated at 130 °C and were cooled down to room temperature. The prepared samples (before and after heating) were submitted to examination. The pH of the solution of the dyes was reduced because of the partial hydrolysis of the dyes. HPLC analysis showed that at the higher retention time, a new peak was formed; showing that hydrolysis of dye has occurred. The sulphatoethylsulphonyl reactive group converted to the less polar vinyl sulphone reactive group, by splitting all the elements of sulphonic acid, leading to lower pH values.
